If you are struggling in your relationships (with yourself or others), a marriage and family therapist (MFT), like me, helps by looking at things from a systemic perspective. What does that mean? No person is an island. We are all interconnected in systems (families, relationships, work, school, community, etc.) that affect the way feel and function.
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist - Candidate (MFTC). This means that I am working toward becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). What does that mean for you and the level of care you can expect? Your care is the top priority. I am very capable of working with you to help you achieve your therapy goals. I have a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy along with hundreds of hours of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups in therapeutic settings. The Gender Identity Center of Colorado (no longer active) was home to me as I completed my practice hours for graduation.
I specialize in supporting clients working to address the unique issues facing the LGBTQIA+ community. Does that mean you have to be part of that community for me to be a good fit as your therapist? No. I see individuals, couples, and families of all kinds.
For the time being, my office is any quiet, private location of your choosing, with an internet connection. In other words, I am offering teletherapy sessions only until the majority of my clients feel safe enough to resume in-person sessions with me. I always ensure that sessions are conducted discreetly and in compliance with HIPAA from my location.
I am available in the evenings and on weekends. Most of my clients have found difficulty in holding regular appointments during regular office hours. To be more conveniently available, my appointments are available on weekdays starting at 5:00 PM and on Sundays starting at 1:00 pm.
My approach to therapy could be described as a cooperative partnership. I am the practitioner, but you are the expert on your life and experiences. I will meet you where you are with practical research-backed tools that you can use right away. Where you want to go and how hard you want to work is completely up to you, but you will be challenged during the therapeutic process. The goals of therapy are yours and you are responsible for your level of engagement.
Therapeutic methodologies and techniques used depend on the client and the goals we're working on. However, I tend to lean on are Cognitive Behavioral and Emotionally Focused strategies the most.
